In order to get to the
bottom of things the Dowager's cabin top was lifted off and placed over
her aft cabin.
The engine
was then removed to gain access to floors and frames beneath.
Several planks were removed
to allow for inspection of the stem and frames.
Fastenings of the Dowager
consist of a combination of copper rivets and galvanized screws. The
rivets were fine but the galvanized screws had corroded causing the
white oak frames surrounding them to deteriorate.
